READY TO JUMP
INTO HOMESCHOOL?

"Children learn from anything and everything they see.

They learn wherever they are, not just in special learning places."

Home education is a parent-directed approach to educating a student in Grades 1 through Grade 12.
Parents have the benefit of being responsible for all education decisions.

Parents choose curriculum resources and methodology consistent
with their family's beliefs and consistent
with the Home Eduction Regulation.

Alberta Education offers parents two home-based avenues:

1. Non-Supervised by school/board authority
Notification only method. Parents submit notification to the Alberta government of their intent to homeschool. Notification can be submitted at any time during the year.
This method requires no supervision from a school board authority, no submission of curriculum and no bi-annual check-ins.
This method is not eligible for funding from Alberta Education.
Intent form can be submitted at any point in the year.

2. Supervised by school authority
A home education program supervised by a willing public, separate or francophone school board or accredited funded private school.
This method is eligible for funding from Alberta Education. Intent form must be submitted by September 29 of each year to qualify for funding.

Standards for Home Education Reimbursement

College/University

Adults, 18 and over may attend any college program by completing a pre-requisite test where applicable, or by applying as a mature student.
At most, some specialized college or university programs request one science, math and/or English credit. Individual pre-requisite courses can be completed easily, if necessary.
Homeschool families also have the opportunity to compile portfolios of their high schoolers work to submit to eligible programs.

Homeschooling will NEVER be a barrier from your child's future!

"We are not raising children who can regurgitate facts. We have robots for that.

We are raising children who are constantly & joyfully seeking knowledge and adventures, who are creative and passionate humans, who value and honor their skills and unique talents."

"Remind them of their big heart, their light, their resolve, their confidence, their worth. Remind them all that we hope they see within themselves, again and again. Your believing is the fabric on which they'll stitch their own belief."

"But aren't we meant to let go? Many parents ask.

Aren't our children meant to become independent of us?

Absolutely, but only when our job is done and only in order for them to be themselves. Fitting in with the immature expectations of the peer group is not how the younf grow to be independent, self-respextinf adilts. By weakening the natural lines of attachment and responsibility, peer orientation undermines healthy development."
